History of Haverhill Teachers Credit Union

The Haverhill Teachers Credit Union was started in 1937 when a group of Haverhill teachers had a vision to provide cooperative means of saving and lending to employees of the Haverhill school district. The group consisted of twenty-three teachers, who became the first Board of Directors. Each one purchased shares, and so began the Haverhill Teachers Credit Union. The Credit Union was located in the basement classroom at the high school. Banking hours were every Thursday afternoon from 1:00pm-5: 30pm.

From these humble beginnings, the credit union grew steadily, eventually becoming a full service institution. It relocated to a small office area in the basement of City Hall.

In 1995 the credit Union moved to a new location in the same building and made substantial renovations resulting in a very attractive office with state of the art equipment. Throughout the years the one thing that has remained constant – was the vision to be not the largest but the best credit union.
